+When John Lofgren sets out to build a pair of boots, he builds the most comfortable, highest quality boot he can. All of the work is done in Japan from start to finish, using only the highest quality leathers, Vibram soles, and John's own custom lasts.
The newest style from Lofgren for FW24 is the El Capitan Boot - somewhere between the M-43 and the Lofgren Combat Boot, it's an old school military style shoe with the usual heavy duty construction. Featuring a flat unstructured toe and a more robust heel cup and counter, it's just the right balance for optimum durability, with a little more traction thanks to the mini-lug outsole.
The uppers are made from Horween's Chromexcel cowhide, an extremely sturdy and handsome leather that only gets better and better with time. Horween Black CXL is a tea-core leather, meaning the dye hasn't fully penetrated the hide, sitting only at the surface above a "natural" brown core. Over time, that black dye will scuff off and wear down in certain areas, revealing a tan interior that will also darken and patina with wear.
As far as leather goes, it's thick and sturdy, starting out noticeably stiff and requiring a few weeks of good wear to really break-in. After that, the leather begins to relax considerably, moulding to take the shape of the wearer's foot and softening at flex points to move more easily.
They stand on the Vibram 430 sole and heel combo, a low-profile sole with a plush and discreet lug pattern underneath. Offering great traction and comfort without adding visual bulk, they are a favorite for both city and country.
